The Spicy Chole (chickpeas) withPuri (fried wheat bread) is an ideal recipe if you Love spicy Indian Food.
Food is all about colours, flavours and texture and the bundle of spices when added to any recipe makes its more colurful and tasteful.I love to cook recipes with these Indian spices becuase that makes my weekend perfect! Good Food- Good Read and Good writing. Last Sunday I made this lipsmacking chole with puri which is full of flavours and colurs.So I am sharing this recipe with you,try it once and you will not regret!
The ingredients required for making Spicy Chole are :
- Chole(chickpeas) 250 gm
- Tomato , onion and chili chopped finely
- Garlic and ginger paste 1 teaspoon
- Masala (Spices)- Turmeric, Red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala (it’s a mix of different spices), Bay leaves,cumin seeds , cardamoms and cloves (3 )
- Salt to Taste
- Sunflower oil-3 tablespoon
Ingredients for making Puri (Fried wheat bread)
- Wheat flour 2 Cups
- Refined oil , water and salt
This will serve 2 people and you will need 15 minutes for preparation and 20 minutes for cooking.
Preparation for Making Chole:
The first and the foremost task is to soak the chickpeas in water and leave it for 7-8 hours.You will see the chickpeas have become soft and they are ready to cook.
Next Put them in pressure cooker.Add cardomom , cloves and salt and two cups water (water should be more than the chickpeas so that they don’t burn)and pressure cook it for 15 minutes.Cardamom and cloves will add flavour to the chickpeas while they are cooking.
Once they are boiled, transfer it into bowl , strain and keep the leftover water.The chickpeas will be soft.(You can check if its cook by checking if they are ready to be mashed with hand)
In a deep kadhai (cooking pan) add oil, bay leaves and cummin. Let it splutter for 2 seconds.
Add cut onions .chilli and crushed garlic to it and cook it for 2-3 minutes till the onions are translucent
Now add the ginger garlic paste and let it cook for 2 minutes.
Add sliced tomatoes into it- cook till they become supple and tender and all the ingredients seems well combined
Now to this mixture add the boiled chickpeas (don’t add the water) and cook it till the spices and chickpeas get mixed together really well.
Now add the left over water into this mixture and let it cook for 10 minutes with lid on. After 10 minutes, before turning off heat, sprinkle pinch of black pepper powder on it and topping it with chopped coriander leaves or chilli for chilli lovers.
For the Puri (Fried wheat bread)
- Knead the dough till it is soft and ready to roll(don’t make it sticky, start with adding little water)
- Cover and leave it for 5 minutes so that it becomes moist and soft.
Take one small portion of dough , make a ball out of it and then roll it into round puri.
Deep Fry the round puri in refined oil.
The puri’s over absorbent papers to drain out excess oil.But I think once in a week you can have this oil !!
Your Spicy Chole Puri is ready to serve, ready to Eat.
